Hello to my faithful subscribers! Sorry I have been away from you for so long, but as you may have noticed, I’ve been writing a bit more for The Grand Slam of Curling website. They’ve really bolstered their writing crew this year, and there’s tons of great content being posted there, near-daily. So make sure to check it out if you haven’t already. Over the course of the summer, I wrote an article on the Goldline acquisition of Hardline, talking to Goldline CEO Pete Townshend and putting together a piece on what that all means, and then I was on the Brad Gushue conference call the week he announced his retirement, recapping all of the questions he was asked there and trying to put it all in context. I’d be thrilled if you had a read of both of those, and I’ll have more pieces coming on the GSOC website all season long.
This is an Olympic year and we know that means there will not only be a lot of amazing curling to consume, but also team changes, and so this newsletter will likely get a workout throughout the year as I put my “xoxo, gossipcurl” hat on once again. So don’t fear! I love and appreciate all of you and there will be more newsletters coming. But before we get to that, you may have heard: I released a book! “Curling Rocks!: Chronicles of the Roaring Game” came out a couple of weeks ago in Canada on Douglas & McIntyre, and the response has been fantastic. We sold out of copies at The Rock Shop in Nisku, many of you across the country have shared that you picked it up, and even top curlers are getting in on the act:
Thank you to everyone who has bought it so far, and for those of you who haven’t, it’s available anywhere you get books in Canada, from Indigo to your nearest independent bookstore. And if they don’t have it, they can order it for you. The Rock Shop will also have copies available in Saskatoon and Steinbach, and I’ll be able to sign a copy for you too. ;)
For my U.S. friends who have been asking, the book will be out there just in time for the Olympics, on February 3rd, 2026. You can pre-order it now at any bookstore, or from my friends over at Broomfitters, who sell a bunch of curling products and are great ambassadors for the game.
Some of you have been asking about an audiobook, and I have good news on that front: it is coming! No release date yet, but I’ve been told sometime in the spring. I am hoping to be able to read the book myself, but I am still waiting have that confirmed. More on all of that shortly
I think that’s everything! Oh, and we’ve switched to weekly episodes over at the Broom Brothers, and it’s been a lot of fun. Tons of great player interviews, lots of good chatter with my co-host Robbie Doherty, I think we are getting better all the time and I hope you’ll check out the podcast if you haven’t already.
Thanks as always for being a subscriber, it means a lot to me, and I’ll see you very soon, maybe with some juicy goss. xoxo.
